Re: Underated and understated guitar work in songs
For an underated bass line there's Don't You Just Know It on the flip of Jack The Ripper from Screaming Lord Sutch and The Savages.

Elsewhere Hank Snow was a master of "less is more" with some delicate understated acoustic work and don't ever forget Richard Thompson in the sadly underated dept.

The late great, much missed Rhandy Rhoads, laying down the track 'Dee' as a tribute to his mother. The bloke was an amazing metal guitarist but he was happier playing classical. Although these are studio outakes the song, once he nails it, it's beautiful and I've been tying to learn ever since.

Re: Underated and understated guitar work in songs
This will make a lot of people laugh

When I was a student (many years ago) I was sat in this dingey cellar bar in Cardiff drinking & smoking with a few mates

In the corner was a jukebox with an exceptionally good base sound

Some idiot for a laugh had put on "Yummy yummy yummy I've got love in my tummy" (1910 Fruitgum Factory I think). What was called "Bubblegum music" back in the day

Suddenly all the hip music lovers started looking at each other as the base riff started churning out

Really excellent for a crappy record (Well worth a listen)
